Overview

The International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) project is managed by the GICHD on behalf of the United Nations. This consists of the review process for extant IMAS, the development of new IMAS and an "outreach" support capacity to assist in the design of national mine action standards. It is a continual process.

The IMAS provide guidelines for national governments, Mine Action Centres and demining organisations. They then become the basis for National Mine Action Standards, and Standing Operational Procedures.
