Entry into Force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions

The GICHD welcomes the entry into force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) on 1 August 2010 which is an important milestone in the fight against weapons that kill and maim indiscriminately, even long after armed conflict has ended. The knowledge and know-how acquired by the Centre over the last 10 years will be important to respond to the operational and technical challenges that affected states and the international community are facing. The first meeting of the States Parties to the CCM will be held in Vientiane, Laos from 9 to 12 November 2010. The GICHD is supporting the preparatory process through contributions to the various thematic discussions.

The GICHD has recently released the revised publication "A Guide to Cluster Munitions" in French. It will be distributed to all Francophone mine action players and other interested parties. It is also available to download free of charge from our Publications web pages. Later this year translations of this comprehensive Guide will also be available in Arabic, Lao, Russian and Vietnamese.
