Havard Bach heads the Operational Support Unit for the GICHD. Projects under his responsibility currently include studies on mine dog detection and mechanical mine clearance. He has also given consultancy advice, often related to operational demining activities and demining technology.

Prior to employment at GICHD (from May 1999) Havard worked as a Norwegian military engineering officer before being employed by Norwegian People's Aid (NPA). He has managed several mine action programmes worldwide, involving the planning, establishment and management in collaboration with host nations, donors, UN agencies and other NGOs. Through his work, Havard has been involved in a range of activities, including mine dog detection and mechanical mine clearance, which are two of his current focuses.
