Since July 2008, Monika Froehler is serving as EU Joint Action Coordinator of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention Implementation Support Unit (ISU). Monika is coordinating all aspects of the implementation of the European Union Joint Action on the universalisation and implementation of the APM Ban Convention in preparation of the Convention’s Second Review Conference 2009. Her tasks include the organisation of regional workshops in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, Central Asia and South East Europe and organising assistance visits of technical experts to States Parties facing challenges with certain obligations under the Convention. Between 2005 and 2008, Monika worked as consultant in the field of international disarmament at the United Nations in Geneva, Vienna and New York covering issues regarding nuclear weapons, WMD and conventional weapons including Anti-personnel Mines. She worked as disarmament expert for the Austrian and Portuguese EU Presidency at the UN, briefly interned at the European Commission Representation in Geneva and was employed by the Austrian Foreign Ministry in the Department for Global Disarmament, Arms Control, Export Control and International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. Monika has a Bachelor of Arts from the International University Vienna, a Masters in Diplomatic Studies from the Mediterranean Diplomatic Academy and a post–graduate Diploma from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.
