BackgroundSince October 2006, René Faure has assumed responsiblity for promoting and developing the role of the GICHD in French speaking countries and organisations; he is also the focal point of the military liaisons between the GICHD and the relevant military engineering schools and international organisations, such as NATO or UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations, that are involved in mine action. After an initial period devoted to the command of airborne artillery troops and to the training of cadets, René Faure has centred the last 15 years of his military career on international relations and arms control issues. He was, in particular, deeply involved in the negotiation of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in 1997, in Geneva, Brussels, Oslo and Ottawa. His educational background includes a Masters of Science of the Saint-Cyr Military Academy, a Masters of Engineering of the National Institute for Advanced Technologies (ENSTA), Paris, the Joint War College of Paris and the NATO Defence College in Roma. Brigadier General (retd) René Faure is seconded by the French government. |
