2006 Third Review Conference

The Second Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention, held in Geneva from 11 to 21 December 2001, decided “to convene a further conference five years following the entry into force of the amendments adopted at the Second Review Conference, but in any case not later than 2006, with preparatory meetings starting as early as 2005, if necessary” (Final Declaration, Part II, “Review of the Articles, Article 8 (Review and amendments)” of the Final Document, as contained in CCW/CONF.II/2).

Following the decision of the Second Review Conference, the 2005 Meeting of the States Parties decided to convene the Third Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention from 7 to 17 November 2006 at Geneva in conjunction with the Eighth Annual Conference of the States Parties to Amended Protocol II (paragraph 26 of the Report of the Meeting of the States Parties, as contained in CCW/MSP/2005/2).

The Third Review Conference was held from 7 to 17 November 2006 at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). A special plenary meeting to mark the entry into force of CCW Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War took place on Monday,13 November 2006.
