The States Parties to the CCW will continue their work in 2008.
They decided that ‘the Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) will negotiate a proposal to address urgently the humanitarian impact of cluster munitions, while striking a balance between military and humanitarian considerations. The GGE should make every effort to negotiate this proposal as rapidly as possible and report on the progress made to the next meeting of the High Contracting Parties in November 2008.’
The GICHD provides independent technical input into international efforts to minimise human suffering caused by landmines, booby traps and other devices and explosive remnants of war (ERW), which are covered by the on-going work of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) and the Group of Governmental Experts.
