Lt Col Frank Abel joined the GICHD in September 2009, seconded by the German Ministry of Defense. He is responsible for the development and production of a series of GICHD catalogues on mine clearance protection equipment, metal detectors, machines and technology. He is also participating in the process of developing standards for mechanical application. He is a senior engineer officer with 22 years experience in operational matters, training and staff work. Prior to joining the GICHD, he was teacher for military tactics at the German officer school and deputy commander of a heavy engineer battalion. He took part in four missions abroad, the last one being as chief engineer RC North in Afghanistan in 2008.
