It is now widely recognised that the value of mine action programmes is greatly enhanced when they are aligned with a country’s broader development priorities. But how can this be done? Building on its long experience on this issue, the GICHD is launching a project that will produce clear guidelines and tools to assist mine action managers in linking mine action with development. The Centre will also provide training and advisory services to national programme managers and technical advisors, including:

  • Understanding the development planning and management system in a country
  • Designing plans for linking with development efforts at national, sectoral, provincial, and local levels, and for documenting the contributions that mine action is making to development in a country
  • Training and advisory services to introduce tools needed to devise policies that promote the links between mine action and development, and design mine action programmes that are aligned with the country’s development priorities.
