The GICHD has an observer status to the States Parties meetings taking place in the framework of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW). The Centre provides independent technical input into international efforts to minimise human suffering caused by landmines, booby traps and other devices and explosive remnants of war (ERW), which are covered by the on-going work of the CCW.

The Centre focuses on the humanitarian impact of conventional weapons and on offering technical advisory services, whenever suitable.

The GICHD is administering the CCW Sponsorship Programme, as mandated by the High Contracting Parties at the CCW Third Review Conference in November 2006.
