Mines Other Than Anti-personnel Mines (MOTAPM) have been on the agenda of the CCW since 2001.

At the Fourth Review Conference, in November 2011, High Contracting Parties decided to "convene an open-ended meeting of experts from 2 to 4 April 2012 to discuss further the implementation of international humanitarian law with regard to mines other than anti-personnel mines, and to submit a report to the 2012 Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention."

At this meeting of experts, which was held in Geneva, Switzerland, the GICHD launched the 'Mines other than Anti-Personnel Mines' Issue Brief on the humanitarian impact linked to the use of anti-vehicle mines and the challenges related to the clearance of this category of weapon.
