humanitarian demining

Description:

demining /humanitarian demining activities which lead to the removal of mine and ERW hazards, including technical survey, mapping, clearance, marking, post-clearance documentation, community mine action liaison and the handover of cleared land. Demining may be carried out by different types of organisations, such as NGOs, commercial companies, national mine action teams or military units. Demining may be emergency-based or developmental. (In IMAS standards and guides, the terms demining and humanitarian demining are interchangeable.)

Note: in IMAS standards and guides, mine and ERW clearance is considered to be just one part of the demining process.
