ProjectVehicle-Mounted Close-in Mine Detection SystemThe Vehicle Mounted Mine Detection and Clearing System (MMSR) project is funded by the German MOD (BMVg). It its designed to detect AP and AT mines in all terrain. The far goal was to develop a remote controlled mine detection and clearing system being equipped with very low false alarm rate sensors and mechanically assisted clearing tools. The main components of the multi-sensor system are of MD, GPR, hyper spectral and TNA type. The computer aided sensor fusion and signal processing is enabling the online data visualisation and a high resolution positioning. Phase 1 trials under field conditions were successful. Within the further needed research during development Phase 2, the integration of a bulk explosive detector (TNA) is foreseen to improve the detection accuracy. Together with a change of participating companies a new bi-lateral co-operation with French companies was set up. This was also influencing the whole programme and several changes of the German far goals are identified. The new name for the joint programme now is MMSR-SYDERA.
