Afghanistan

The GICHD provides support to the Mine Action Coordination Centre for Afghanistan (MACCA) in the field of strategic management, operations, information management and standards. The Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Zalmai Aziz is a member of the Council of Foundation and Mr. Rashid Mohammed Sediq, Chief of Operations, MACCA, is a member of the Advisory Board. MACCA has a seat on the International Mine Action Standards Review Board.

Strategic management

  • Support for a “Landmines and livelihoods” survey aiming at measuring the impact of clearance in several communities
  • Support in the development of a transition plan and a National Mine Action Strategy
  • Delivery of  workshops on Economic Analysis of Demining projects & Evaluating Mine Action

Operations

  • Assistance to improve the use of mine detection dogs, through advice on training, testing and accreditation systems
  • Support in the implementation of land release procedures
  • Training on the deployment and use of mechanical demining machines

Information management

  • Support in centralizing the data management
  • Installation of and training on IMSMANG

Standards

  • Assistance in the development and dissemination of National Mine Action Standards (NMAS)
