The GICHD provides independent, technical advice to national authorities and other interested agencies on explosive ordnance disposal matters. These matters include the logistics of disposal of stockpiles, and explosives safety, including storage, processing and transport.

In the past, this has included advice on:

  • initial operational support
  • UN programmes (UNEAC, Jenin 2002)
  • project development of logistics of disposal programmes (Ukraine PMN Destruction 2001)
  • national anti-personnel mine stockpile destruction programmes in Bangladesh 

The GICHD also provides technical advice and support to the explosive remnants of war (ERW) discussions under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) process.
