The GICHD has completed a study of liability and insurance in mine action, during which both legal and public liability issues were examined, as well as the various aspects of insurance. The study was undertaken in cooperation with the Swiss Institute for Comparative Law, and involved three small-scale country studies, which focus on how liabilities are dealt with. Questions in regard to liability are closely linked to the process of releasing land. The new Guide to Liability and Insurance in Mine Action is now available for order or download through the GICHD website. In 2012, the GICHD will undertake further studies and research on liability in mine action.
The GICHD provides liability and insurance training, both as a part of the contracting training course, and as a specific, targeted training course and workshop, where liability and insurance is the main topic.
