The GICHD’s mechanical demining section studies ways of increasing and improving the effectiveness of mechanical applications in humanitarian demining. The section plans, implements and conducts training and operational support to mechanical demining operators in mine affected countries. The section assists UNMAS in writing the mechanical demining IMAS series and develops publications related to mechanical demining. It also supports testing of demining machines and provides an interface between operators, research, development institutions, manufacturers, national authorities and donors of mechanical demining equipment.
During 2011 the section will focus its work on training activities.
During 2011 the GICHD Tool for Management of Mechanical Demining Operations will also be distributed to mechanical demining operators in the field. The tool with also be further developed to incorporate additional functionalities.
