Overview

Strategic management for mine action involves the establishment of national mine action programmes, the development of national mine action strategies and capabilities, and planning and implementing well-planned transitions to national ownership. Through its Strategic Management section, GICHD supports these processes in addition to the application of results-based management and quality management for mine action, and linking mine action with broader international assistance programmes (development, humanitarian, peacekeeping, post-conflict recovery, human security, security sector, etc.).

Our Strategic Management section consists of two complementary programmes:

  • Mine Action, Security and Development
  • Quality Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

In addition, the section conducts applied research on diverse issues which are closely connected with its core functions, including:

  • the negative impacts of mines/ERW (e.g. the pattern of accidents over time)
  • the developmental benefits stemming from mine action
  • mine action and aid effectiveness

We also offer the following services:

  • Advisory services on strategic planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, etc.
  • Project and programme evaluations or assessments
  • Landmine and Livelihoods surveys (country-specific)
  • Evaluating Mine Action training workshops on a regional or country-specific basis
