The GICHD has the capability to provide independent, technical advice to national authorities and other interested agencies on Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) matters, (including logistic disposal of stockpiles), Explosive Safety (including storage, processing and transport). This advice has ranged in the past from initial operational support to UN programmes (UNEAC, Jenin 2002) to the project development of logistic disposal programmes (Ukraine PMN Destruction 2001), to advice on national AP mine stockpile destruction programmes in Bangladesh.

The GICHD also provides technical advice and support to the ERW discussions under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) process.
