IMSMA Mine Action Information Management in Peace Support Operations

Who should participate

This course is intended for Officers and NCO’s assigned to peacekeeping operations or personnel awaiting deployment in support of similar missions that have or are planning to establish a Mine Action component.

Prerequisites

Participation in this course does not require previous experience with Mine Action or Information Management.  It does require the active participation of students during the training.

Course Duration

The course is conducted over a period of five consecutive days.

Course Content

1. Introduction to Information Management
2. Information Management in different environments
3. Establishing an effective and efficient Information Management system
4. Information Management Tools: IMSMA
5. Information Management in Peacekeeping Operations
6. Information Management in Mine Action
7. Scenarios:
         a. Peacekeeping Operations in Mine Affected Areas
         b. Establishing Peacekeeping Operations: Handling of Hazard Information

Training methodology

The course combines presentations and lectures with simulations and student exercises. It is expected that trainees will actively participate in the training through exercises, quizzes, role plays, simulations and discussions so they can most benefit from the concepts and material presented.

Each training day begins with a short review of the material covered in previous sessions and ends with a short test of the new elements presented during the day.

Certificate

All participants will receive a certificate. Trainees with a final course test score greater than 60% receive a certificate of successful completion. All other trainees receive a certificate of participation.
