IMSMA training will, during 2007, continue the programme begun in 2005 to focus attention on the preparation for IMSMA V4.0 deployment. The team still believes that a strong Information Management foundation is key to the successful integration of IMSMA into operations in the field. This is reflected in our Geneva based training programme for 2007. The IMSMA V4 upgrade project is now well underway with 8 programmes using the system in the field and another 16 scheduled for upgrade by the summer of 2007 ... see IMSMA News for more information. We feel very strongly that one of the reasons for our success up this point in the project has been the preparation of users provided during our pre-deployment Geneva training activities. The two components of this training programme, which are required before IMSMA V4.0 is installed in an individual program, are: Introduction to Information Management in Mine Action and Information Management for Operations in Mine Action. Each module is 1 week long and is designed for staff involved in planning, tasking, monitoring, quality control and like activities. The modules are often offered in two consecutive weeks to reduce costs. However they can be attended separatly. IMSMA technical training is held in each country during the system installation process. The focus of this training is the system users with a short introduction and overview provided to the local information technology support staff. Based on our field trials we are still not planning to provide an IMSMA Train the Trainer course or specialized technical training for system administrators. Information Management training and hands-on IMSMA technical training are provided by invitation. The Geneva Centre uses a standard procedure based on input from the field programmes for the selection of individuals to attend training. If you feel that you, or your staff, should attend these training sessions, please see the Trainee Identification Process. |
