I. INTRODUCTORY NOTE ON IDENTIFIYING STAFF FOR TRAINING

Staff who are invited to attend Introduction to Information Management and Information Management for Operations in Mine Action should be involved in operational, planning, tasking, monitoring, quality control and similar activities.

These staff members will gain a solid foundation in the principles of information management and the role of information management as a support activity in mine action.

II. TRAINEE IDENTIFICATION PROCESS

In order to ensure maximum benefit and participation by field staff, the GICHD IMSMA Training team has designed the following process. This process is conducted in close cooperation with national authorities.

1. Staff Identification

The National Agency officially charged by the Government with mine action activities  is contacted and asked to fill out a “Staff Identification Form”. This initial phase allows the GICHD to get a general idea of the number of people requiring training and the posts these staff hold.

2. Personal Data

Upon completion of the first phase staff meeting the criteria of pre-selection will be invited to complete a “Personal History Form”. The provision of personal information, such as data on the work they perform, education, languages he or she is fluent in, amount of time he or she is expected to stay in the post they hold, etc., assists the GICHD in assuring the person is trained with staff that have a similar background, that his/her linguistic requirements are met and that the trainee receives maximum benefit from the experience.

3. Pre-test

Individuals selected to attend training will be asked to take a short quiz.  This will assist the training staff in ensuring the individual is placed with a group that has similar experiences.  Finally the pre-test gives the course instructor a clearer understanding of the knowledge the trainee will bring to the course.

4. Invitation to Training

Once the potential trainee has successfully completed the identification process he/she is contacted through his/her superior and an invitation is extended to attend Training.
