IMSMA was first installed in Armenia in 2002 at the Armenian Humanitarian De-mining Centre (AHDC), which it is a branch of the Armenian Army Engineers Corps. AHDC has been running IMSMA successfully using Version 2.2 since that time. Using the local customization features of IMSMA the AHDC has performed a local translation of the system into the Armenian language.
In 2005, the UNDP and the VVAF worked on the implementation of a national Landmine Impact Survey (LIS) in Armenia. In order to support this effort, a coordinated mission was undertaken by trainers from the LIS (VVAF) team and the GICHD Regional Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia to update the system. The training took place over a period of 2 weeks in the second half of March 2005.
With the support of UNDP as implementing partner, a multifold training was conducted for members of the field survey teams, the LIS data processing crew and the Armenian Army IT staff. The final outcome of the training and local customizations to the system will allow for the Armenian Army de-mining operators to continue working with Version 2.2 of IMSMA in the Armenian language and to have access to the data from the LIS, using the standardized IMSMA 3.0 (SP1) version with customized questionnaires for the field survey.
