The primary task of the GICHD Regional Support Centres (RSC) is to provide direct operational support in the use and integration of information management tools in mine action. The RSC representatives provide direct first level user support for IMSMA, including on-site training, technical advice and maintenance services. The RSCs assist national authorities and the UN with a variety of tasks, including the review of policies and procedures governing information exchange, communication, information management strategies, and product development. The RSCs also organise regional user focus group meetings and training courses.

The long term goals of the RSC programme are to assist the field with the appropriate integration and use of IMSMA in mine action operations and to develop locally sustainable information management capacities. Outside the area of information management the RSCs facilitate contacts between programmes in the field and the staff of the GICHD. The RSCs are currently staffed with one person per region.
