Three IMAS chapters related to Land Release were accepted by the IMAS Review Board in June 2009. They are now posted on the IMAS website as draft documents while they await final endorsement from the Inter-Agency Coordinating Group for Mine Action (IACG-MA). However, the content has effectively already been accepted by the mine action community and as such they can be used with immediate effect.
- IMAS 08.20 Land Release explains the principles of land release and details the responsibilities of donors, governments, and operators in the context of land release. It further explains how the different components of survey and clearance should be viewed and how they can be combined for more efficient release of land.

- IMAS 08.21 Non-Technical Survey explains the principles of a non-technical survey and how and when land can be released by it.

- IMAS 08.22 Technical Survey explains the principles of technical survey and how the requirement for it can be defined by building on evidence that has already been gained through the non-technical survey process.

The three new chapters will replace the previous IMAS chapter 08.20 - Technical Survey. It is also proposed that the current IMAS 9.10 Clearance Requirements be re-numbered (8.23 clearance) to fit into this sequence of land release components.
