UNMAS and the GICHD are currently reviewing the IMAS relating to land release. It is proposed that the current version of IMAS 08.20 will be replaced by three documents which will cover the complete land release process.
The proposed IMAS are
- IMAS 08.20 Land Release. This IMAS will provide a framework around which mine action stakeholders may gain a uniform understanding of the overall land release process and its sub components, and to enable the development of national policy. It covers general survey, which includes the assessment of existing survey information and land use considerations, technical survey and full clearance.
- IMAS 08.21 General Survey. This IMAS will present a framework of essential information required to make decisions to release land by general survey.
- IMAS 08.22 Technical Survey. This IMAS will provide guidance for the release of land through technical survey. The Draft version of 08.22 will be available for comment in due course.
It is also proposed that the current IMAS 09.10 Clearance Requirements be re-numbered (08.23 Clearance) to fit into this sequence of land release components.
