DR CONGO
Together with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), GICHD are exploring how land release principles can improve Non-Technical survey, Technical survey and clearance. A visit to DRC is planned for October 2009.

LAO PDR
In 2006/2007 GICHD developed a Risk Management Model for the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) in Lao PDR. The model aims  to facilitate more effective land release during Battle Area Clearance operations by prioritising tasks according to the ‘risk’ they present to the local population. Over a period of 6 months, models for strategic and operational guidance were developed. The final version of the operational model was delivered to the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) in Lao PDR in October 2008.

Planned publication

A Guide to Land Release : Technical Survey
GICHD are currently working on a follow-up publication to “A Guide to Land Release; Non-Technical methods”, published in 2008. In the wake of the newly-released IMAS on Technical Survey there is a need for a guide on Technical Survey  to support  IMAS 8:22 with more practical advice and examples. The guide will be directed to operators at field level and aims to give clear guidance and examples which can be easily implemented.
