Housed under the Socio-Economic Section, Mine Risk Education receives considerable attention as a core component of mine action. The GICHD has published various studies regarding best practice in mine risk education programmes including; Mine and ERW Risk Education - A Project Management Guide, A Guide to Marking and Fencing in Mine Action Programmes, A Guide to Improving Communication in Mine Risk Education Programmes and most recently the IMAS for MRE Training Manual. The Centre is committed to highlighting the most up to date information and best practice in the discipline.

MRE Assessment and Training

The GICHD is often called upon to provide independent and impartial assessments of existing strategies for mine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk education and to make recommendations for possible future orientation. The GICHD has performed such assessments in Colombia, Thailand, Lebanon and Croatia to name just a few. In addition, the GICHD also offers a five-day Mine Risk Education Programme Managers Training Course. Based on the GICHD Studies, the course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to designing, planning and implementing a national MRE programme.
