Socio-Economics is both an operational section within the GICHD as well as an important theme for research and outreach training. The Unit deals with issues related to socio-economic research and analysis and has attempted to develop clear guidelines for the inclusion of socio-economic approaches to prioritising mine action operations. In addition to purely socio-economic issues the Unit also has responsibility for Mine Risk Education, Victim Assistance, Landmine Impact Surveys as well as broad ranging research into civil, military, NGO and legislative issues in mine action. Socio-Economic Assessment and TrainingAs a part of its commitment to promoting socio-economic approaches to mine action prioritisation, the GICHD has also been involved in independent evaluations and assessments of the impact of various operations as well as providing practical guidance on planning and prioritization processes. In addition, the Centre has developed a Socio-Economic training course as part of it general study implementation and outreach mandate.
