The kick-off meeting for this Workshop was held on 15 November 2006 in Brussels. This Workshop developped a Part 2 for the CEN Workshop Agreement on Test and Evaluation of Metal Detectors (CWA 14747). The main objective of this process was to agree on, and summarise newly-gained knowledge on soil and its effect on metal detectors and GPRs. For the users in the field, being able to classify soils and their effect on detector performance would permit them to better select detectors that will work in their particular soil conditions. This can also have an influence on development of new detectors because it will permit easier testing of the influence of soils on detector performance. The Workshop was led by Royal Military Academy in Brussels and the Project Manager is Dr. Yann Yvinec (yvinec(at)elec.rma.ac.be).
