Advisory Services: Mechanical Applications in Demining

Based on the 2004 GICHD Study of Mechanical Application in Demining, the bi-annual publication of the Mechanical Demining and Equipment catalogue and ongoing field visits, research and international standards work, the GICHD Mechanical Application Section offers a wide range of advisory services:

  • Integration of mechanical assets into a mine action programme
  • Selection of machines, logistical support, and identifying technical training needs
  • Accreditation processes
  • Application of machines in demining

These broad areas encompass a great deal of subject matter, such as establishing the balance between machines and other assets; selection of machines; information management; operational planning; logistics; maintenance regimes; machine characteristics, and clearance, as well as area reduction; technical survey; risk; quality assurance and quality control.

The GICHD can develop and deliver tailored advisory services on the full range of subjects, both in theory and practice. The section prefers to visit a specific country to work with mechanical practitioners and operations managers in the field. We recommend discussing machine integration, selection and accreditation with the GICHD at an early stage before purchase.
