Victim Assistance

As part of its mandate the GICHD is concerned with certain issues related to victim assistance. To that end, in 2002 the GICHD completed a comprehensive study designed to reinforce the body of knowledge within mine action as well as to further develop definitions and lend support to an operational policy regarding mine victim assistance and integrated mine action.

In addition, through its Implementation Support Unit, the GICHD is providing process support to those States Parties to the AP Mine Ban Convention that have indicated that they have a responsibility to significant numbers of landmine survivors. Process support involves providing advice to officials from relevant ministries to raise awareness of the matter, assisting with inter-ministerial coordination, liaising with relevant international and other organizations, and supporting inter-ministerial workshops.
