IMAS on Land Release

In June 2009, three IMAS chapters covering the Land Release process were accepted by the IMAS Review Board. They are now posted on the IMAS website for reference. They cover the following:

  • IMAS 08.20 Land Release explains the principles of the land release process and details the responsibilities of donors, governments, and operators in the context of land release. It explains how the different components of survey and clearance should be viewed and how they can be combined for more efficient release of land. Available on the Mine Action Standards website PDF 101KB
  • IMAS 08.21 Non-Technical Survey explains the principles of non-technical survey and how and when it enables the cancellation of land.
Available on the Mine Action Standards website PDF 328KB
  • IMAS 08.22 Technical Survey explains the principles of technical survey, how it can enable the release of land. It also explains how the requirement for technical survey can be defined through building on evidence that has already been gained through the non-technical survey process.

These three chapters replace the previous IMAS chapter 08.20 - Technical Survey. It has also been proposed that the current IMAS 9.10 Clearance Requirements be re-numbered (8.23 clearance) to fit into this sequence of land release components.
