In 2011, the GICHD published the 'Sourcebook on Socio-economic Survey', whose purpose is to strengthen the capacity of mine action practitioners who design, undertake and manage socio-economic surveys in contaminated countries, or who need to use socio-economic data to inform their decisions.
The Sourcebook presents a compilation of socio-economic surveys, examining their varied purposes as well as the different approaches to the development of survey tools. As such, the Sourcebook is intended to provide guidance for mine action practitioners. For more in-depth practical guidance into specific types of surveys, the GICHD has also compiled 13 detailed descriptions of relevant surveys from survey experts and practitioners:
