The GICHD provides support to the Afghanistan mine action programme through the Mine Action Coordination Centre of Afghanistan (MACCA), the Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC; formerly DMC) and the Afghan implementing partners (MCPA, DAFA, OMAR, ATC and MDC) by strengthening their capacities in operations, information management, prioritisation, contracting, strategic planning and transition, and mainstreaming gender and diversity.

The Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Dr. Nanguyalai Tarzi, is a member of the GICHD Council of Foundation and Mr. Rashid Mohammed Sediq, Director of MACCA, is a member of its Advisory Board. MACCA has a seat on the International Mine Action Standards Review Board.
