Robert Friedel joined the GICHD in April 2019, seconded to the GICHD by the German Ministry of Defense. As Advisor on Operational Efficiency and Security Sector Liaison, he is responsible for civil-military cooperation and contributes to the development of standards, outreach activities, the implementation of non-technical survey in relation to Improvised Explosive Devices and the development of support packages to address operational requirements in urban clearance operations. Prior to joining the GICHD, Robert Friedel participated in several military missions in Afghanistan with the German Army and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization where he worked as construction engineer and as Chief Explosive Ordnance Disposal Coordination Cell (EOD CC). He is a senior engineer officer with over twenty years experience in operational matters and staff training and is a qualified ammunition specialist in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD).
