The GICHD in cooperation with the HALO Trust recently delivered an advanced training course on ammunition identification and disposal. This course focused on building on existing skillskets and improving knowledge of the characteristics of NATO and other ammunition encountered in Afghanistan.
Based on the feedback of the participants on the first day of the course, the curriculum was designed to address their specific needs in understanding alternative techniques in explosive ordnance disposal for enhanced safety and efficiency in operations. Participants were also made familiar with the ammunition safety management methods and received a refresher training in certain ammunition topics that they last learned about over a decade earlier.
This two-week course was financed by the German Federal Foreign Office and was conducted by a team of two GICHD advisory staff with two consulting experts from Fenix Insight Ltd. UK and an assisting instructor from the HALO Trust.
A report of the course is available for download.
