The consultative meeting on the safe and secure management of conventional ammunition took place between 16-17 November 2015 in Geneva, Switzerland. It was hosted by the Swiss Federal Departments of Foreign Affairs and Defence Civil Protection and Sport, and supported by the GICHD and Small Arms Survey. The meeting was held at the World Meteorological Organisation-Building.
The aim of the meeting is to initiate a discussion on establishing a common understanding of the safe and secure management of conventional ammunition. As such, it will provide a platform for multilateral and open discussions among States’ representatives, international and non-governmental organisations and other experts on the relevance of the topic; take stock of international efforts in addressing the issue; and, discuss possible ways forward. The views of States on possible next steps will be particularly important. The Meeting will be held under Chatham House Rule.
