General description

The vehicle-towed magnetometer system MAGNETO MX is a rugged and highly sensitive magnetic gradiometer system (tension band technology) with DGPS integration which is used for the detection of ferromagnetic objects in the ground such as ERW. It is designed for UXO detection in large and medium sized areas and can be used under severe conditions. It is also possible to adapt the system for underwater applications. The base of the system is a modular carrier having a width of 2m which can be extended to 4m. Eight to 16 magnetometer probes can be fixed to this carrier either at a sensor spacing of 25 cm or 50 cm. For data logging, a data acquisition unit is being used which simultaneously logs the measurement values and the DGPS data. All data is displayed on the data acquistion unit in real time. Thus the operator can navigate freely in the field. When having finished the survey, data interpretation can be carried out directly on the data acquisition unit. Alternatively the data can be transferred to a standard PC, where the digital data is being processed and interpreted by the SENSYS MAGNETO software.

Working characteristics

The probes of the MAGNETO MX system are equipped with two single-axis fluxgate sensors. These sensors detect the magnetic interference field which is created by a ferromagnetic object. The detected value is indicated on the display of the rugged tablet PC. The indicated value depends on different parameters e.g. the size of the ferromagnetic object, its position in the ground, its magnetic permeability and its own magnetic field.

Detectors in use to date

Since 1996 the MAGNETO MX system is in service with many commercial ordnance disposal organisations in various countries such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Kosovo, United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, etc.

Power supply

The MAGNETO MX system is equipped with a 12V standard car battery. Operating time depends of number of connected sensors as well as on the used DGPS.

Factory support

SENSYS offers training on customer's sites, but also on its premises in Neu Golm, Germany where a special test area can be used. Manuals for the MAGNETO MX system are available in English and German (other languages on request).

Maintenance and support

There are no special requirements for technician or workshop facilities. No special tools are needed for setup. Detailed explanations on the setup and maintenance of the MAGNETO MX system can be found in the manual. All spare parts for the MAGNETO MX system are in stock. Repair and maintenance is carried out at the SENSYS premises in Neu Golm, Germany. In urgent cases the repair of the devices can be carried out within 48 hours.

Test and evaluation

Different in-house test reports can be provided by SENSYS on request.
