General description

The push-cart magnetometer system MAGNETO MXPDA is a rugged and highly sensitive magnetic gradiometer system (tension band technology) with DGPS integration which is used for the detection of ferromagnetic objects in the ground such as ERW. It is designed for UXO detection in small and medium sized areas and can be used especially in rough terrain and under difficult weather conditions. The system can be carried or pushed (when being used with wheels) by one operator. Thus it is highly flexible, but nevertheless offers a high level of measurement stability. The base of the system is a modular carrier having a width of 1m which can be extended to 2m. Three to five magnetometer probes can be fixed to this carrier either at a sensor spacing of 25 cm or 50 cm. For data logging and digitization, a rugged PDA is being used which records simultaneously the measurement values and the DGPS data. All data is displayed on the PDA in real time. Thus the PDA can be used for free navigation in the field. When having finished the survey, the data is transferred from the PDA to a PC, where the digital data is being processed and interpreted by the SENSYS MAGNETO software.

Working characteristics

The probes of the MAGNETO MXPDA system are equipped with two single-axis fluxgate sensors. These sensors detect the magnetic interference field which is created by a ferromagnetic object. The detected value is indicated on the display of the rugged PDA. The indicated value depends on different parameters e.g. the size of the ferromagnetic object, its position in the ground, it magnetic permeability and its own magnetic field.

Detectors in use to date

Since 2010 the MAGNETO MXPDA system is in service with mostly

German commercial ordnance disposal organisations. The system is also used in France, the Netherlands and Hungary.

Power supply

The MAGNETO MXPDA system is equipped with a 12V lead-gel battery. When using the MAGNETO MXPDA in combination with a DGPS the operating time with one set of batteries is 8 hours.

Factory support

SENSYS offers training on customer's sites, but also on its

premises in Neu Golm, Germany where a special test area can be

used. Manuals for the MAGNETO MXPDA system are available in English and German (other languages on request).

Maintenance and support

There are no special requirements for technician or workshop facilities. No tools are needed for setup. Detailed explanations on

the setup and maintenance of the MAGNETO MXPDA system can be found in the manual. All spare parts for the MAGNETO MXPDA system are in stock. Repair and maintenance is carried out at the SENSYS premises in Neu Golm, Germany. In urgent cases the repair of the devices can be carried out within 48 hours. Repair and maintenance can be

carried out by SENSYS technicians in country in short notice on request.

Test and evaluation

Different in-house test reports can be provided by SENSYS on request.
