A number of projects have made measurements of the response of typical mines or mine surrogates to a range of sensors. Libraries of this data are then made available to developers to facilitate the early stages of development of new detector systems or, particularly, data fusion methods.

Given the wide range of mines and UXO, including improvised devices, and the extreme variability of the possible surroundings (soil type and moisture content, vegetation, temperature, etc) these data libraries cannot be exhaustive but can offer a useful range of representative data.
