The Fundraising Officer coordinates the development and implementation of a diverse range of fundraising activities and projects to support GICHD’s Resource Mobilisation strategy. S/he supports GICHD resource mobilisation efforts through the drafting of high quality project proposals, the identification of potential news sources of funding, both from public and private sectors, the organisation of meetings or events and a close coordination with the communication team.
Under the direction of the Head of Grants Management & Communication, the Fundraising Officer works collaboratively especially with the Grants Management Officer, the technical advisors of the various operational Divisions, the Communication team as well as with the colleagues of the Financial section to align the fundraising channels, messaging and actions in line with GICHD’s strategy 2019-2022.
The Fundraising Officer will support the Head of Division in identifying potential grant support from government agencies, foundations, and corporations to increase and diversity the financial resources of the organization.
- Support the development and implementation of the GICHD resource mobilisation strategy.
- Identify potential new source of funding through research and based on opportunities. Develop public fundraising opportunities and activities.
- Research and identify small-mid donations from trusts, foundations, institutional funders, governments and statutory-making bodies, corporate and private donors.
- Prepare the related documentation and communication material for liaison and donor relation management.
- Draft, coordinate and edit project proposals and funding requests in collaboration with project managers, heads of divisions, the communication team and other contributors.
- Support the head of division and other management members in attracting, building and developing relationships with new and existing corporate donors to secure long term and increased funding across a wide range of target markets.
- Research new philanthropic foundations, public institutions and private funding both in Switzerland and abroad.
- Contribute to the identification of the GICHD projects to be financed or partnered and tailor selected portfolios for fundraising (“cases for support”).
- Measure and monitor progress of the resource mobilisation efforts.
- Administrate and manage the record-keeping of Customer Relationship Management database.
- Maintain and update database of fundraising contacts.
- Manage the Donor Risk Assessment in collaboration with the Grants Management Officer and the Financial section.
- Collaborate with the Communications team in the adaptation and development of activities, communication channels, communication messaging, branding and tools to support the fundraising efforts and increase awareness.
- Develop resource documents for meetings, mailings and reports to donors and partners about the difference their contributions make, in close collaboration with the grant management officer, project managers and the results-based management coordinator.
- Organise donor events, workshops, visits, bilateral meetings.
Key relationships His/her colleagues in the new Division, the project/programme managers, the Heads of Divisions, the Financial section, the Results-based Management Coordinator.
Proven successful experience and knowledge in Grant Management:
- 3 to 5 years experience in roles involving the management of donor funding agreements in the international development, humanitarian or public sector.
- Competence in budget monitoring of multi-year budgets from international donor organisms, philanthropic foundations and/or private sector.
- Knowledge of international, regional and national funding sources, mechanisms and regulations.
- Experience in compiling funding application forms and writing narratives for proposals and reporting.
Strong interest in:
Humanitarian action, development cooperation and human security issues posed by explosive remnants of war
University degree, preferably in international relations, development, social sciences, marketing or another relevant subject.
Skills, Abilities & Attitudes
- Ability to provide technical advice and information in area of expertise.
- Excellent narrative and communications skills, specifically in English language.
- Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise within a variety of projects and coordinate the input from multiple contributors in technical functions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse organisation.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to leverage on colleagues’ competencies to reach the objectives.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English.
- French, Arabic, German, or Spanish are assets.
- Information research skills.
- Knowledge of Project management.
- Database management skills.
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management tools is desired.
- Some experience or an understanding of digital communication and marketing.
