The Head of Grants Management & Communication will lead a team of professionals that will support the GICHD’s resource mobilisation, donor relations, grants management and communication efforts, under the Chief of Mine Action Programmes.
In support of GICHD Senior Managers, the Head of Grants Management & Communication will develop, implement and monitor a strategy to ensure that adequate resources are mobilised to meet the needs of the GICHD. Additionally, s/he will work closely with the Finances team that supports Heads of Divisions and their programme/project managers to have accurate financial information and advice, enabling them to manage their projects effectively and according to donor rules and requirements.
S/he will also oversee the broader communication and public relations efforts of the GICHD, not only to enhance the resource mobilisation but also to ensure that the corporate communication reach out to all stakeholders and support the overall corporate identity of the GICHD.
Management of the Division
- Lead and manage the Division, striving for a culture of innovation, cost-effectiveness and the achievement of results.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the results-based framework underpinning the GICHD’s strategy.
- Ensure the compliance of activities and outputs of the Division with the policies and Internal Rules and Regulations of the GICHD.
- Foster the mainstreaming of gender and diversity inclusion in all resource mobilisation and communication activities.
- Coordinate and monitor the Division staff, facilitate their development, foster a collaborative, respectful and enabling work environment; conduct periodic staff appraisals and promote diversity and inclusiveness.
Resource Mobilisation and Donor Relations
- Develop and monitor a resource mobilisation strategy for both public and private funding.
- Support and advise the Management Board in their communication and outreach to new and existing donors.
- Research and identify potential new sources of funding to diversify the donor base.
- Attract, build, maintain and develop relationships with new and existing corporate donors to secure long term and increased funding across a wide range of target markets.
- Lead the Communication team in the adaptation and development of activities, communication channels and tools to support the fundraising efforts.
- Oversee the drafting of funding proposals of high quality that reflect the work, objectives and values of the GICHD and that cultivate the interest and confidence of new and existing donors.
- Develop and prepare other resource mobilisation documentations. Liaise with donor representatives (participation to workshops, visits to donors HQ, etc.) as required.
- Measure and monitor progress of the resource mobilisation efforts.
- Oversee the donor risk assessment and the accurate maintenance of the Customer Relationship Management database.
- Work in conjunction with the Heads of Divisions, the Project Managers and the Financial Section to produce all narrative and financial grant reports.
- Coordinate in conjunction with the Heads of Divisions and the Project Managers the implementation and compliance of all grants, with the support of the Grants Management Officer and the Financial section.
- Monitor the implementation progress, management and administration of all grants.
- Work with the relevant Heads of Divisions, Project Managers and the Financial Section to prepare the narrative and financial reports to donors, and carry out the quality control of those documents, thereby ensuring the smooth preparation and completion of the various donor reports.
- Liaise with the Financial Section to coordinate specific donor audits.
- Develop, implement and monitor the implementation of the communication strategy.
- Supervise and monitor the services delivered by the communication team, to ensure that they meet the needs of the resource mobilisation efforts as well as the wider outreach on corporate identity and outreach.
- Supervise and monitor the dissemination of the communication outreach (through press, digital media, websites, events, public relations, publications).

Proven successful experience and knowledge in:
Resource Mobilisation & Grant Management
- Developing an active role and a coherent strategy in public/private partnerships for an organisation beyond simply funding, grants management, managing corporate or High Net Worth Individual accounts;
- Scaling up and launching new ideas and resource mobilisation projects;
- Working with government officials and heads of NGOs and foundations;
- Preparing and implementing Private Sector Fund Raising (PSFR) plans;
- Creating successful and scalable public/private partnerships;
- Experience in narrative reporting in a results- and impact-driven framework;
- Knowledge of international, regional and national funding sources, mechanisms and regulations;
- Knowledge of institutional / government donors, as well as trusts’ strategies and regulations;
- Proven experience in managing complex and nuanced partners relationships, which require a bespoke approach and a high level of judgement, operating within following network (key external contacts and level): governments and institutional donors; corporations, commercial companies; philanthropy networks, foundations.
- Implementing grant management in not-for-profit structures.
External Communication and Public Relations
- Effective and efficient communication with institutional and philanthropic donors on grant application and progress through targeted proposals, periodic written reports, in-person presentations and ongoing communication;
- Relevant and successful experience in creating and managing communication and public relations strategies, including new digital media. Strong interest in and exposure to: Humanitarian action, development cooperation and human security issues posed by explosive remnants of war.
- A post-graduate degree in business or public administration, marketing, communications, international studies, political sciences, public relations or related disciplines;
- Credentials in not-for-profit fundraising and grants management or philanthropic leadership.
