Armen Harutyunyan joined the GICHD in July 2018 as an Advisor for Land Release and Operational Efficiency. His work is primarily to develop training courses and provide technical advice to national authorities, United Nations, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders on non-technical and technical survey, clearance methodologies, technology, and the best practices in order to increase their operational efficiency. Additionally, he carries out mine action evaluations and research, and provides broader mine action expertise.

Prior to joining GICHD, between 2001 and 2013, Armen Harutyunyan was working in humanitarian mine action as operations and programme manager with INGOs and the UN in Asia, South-East Asia, Caucasus and Horn of Africa. He has also worked in various portfolio and project management positions for UNOPS in support of peace and security, global health, innovation and other UN-led initiatives, supporting UN and other partners based in New York and Geneva.

Armen Harutyunyan holds an MBA from the University of Leicester’s School of Management in Leicester, U.K.
