Gianluca Maspoli joined the GICHD in July 2014. As Advisor in the Policy and External Relations Division, he is responsible for projects strengthening the linkages of mine action with human security, thereby contributing to more inclusive, effective and efficient mine action activities. His work is focused on security sector reform (SSR), peace mediation and environmental considerations.
Prior to joining the GICHD, Gianluca Maspoli worked in peace-keeping and peace-building missions for Switzerland and for international organisations. He was a Military Observer in the Middle-East, an Arms Monitor in Nepal for the United Nations and an analyst in Kosovo for the European Union Mission and the Kosovo Force (KFOR). He was responsible for the Swiss Security Sector Reform project in South Sudan. Before working in field missions, he was a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Geneva.
Gianluca Maspoli holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Geneva.
