Matthieu Laruelle joined the Implementation Support Unit on the Cluster Munitions Convention (ISU-CCM) at the GICHD on 9th May 2016. His core responsibilities include: Assisting the Coordinators in preparing meetings and convening their various thematic responsibilities; Assisting the Coordinators in their outreach and bilateral dialogue with States Parties regarding obligations to fulfill as well as with relevant organizations and institutions; Supporting States in understanding the nature and extent of their obligations under the Convention; Contracting relevant technical expertise in support of specific activities and projects organized by the President or the Coordinators, including development of substantive documents; Managing external communication, website and social media updates; Assisting the Director with finance monitoring and reporting on the CCM governance; Functioning as Acting Director in the Director’s absence.
Prior to joining the ISU-CCM, Matthieu worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross as Deputy Head of the Mine Action Unit in Geneva, Mine action Programme Manager in Asia, Africa and Latin America and finally as Head of Mission. His last assignment was in Colombia as Head of Project for Handicap International where he managed the organization’s humanitarian demining accreditation process.
Matthieu holds a Masters in Peacekeeping and Security Studies from the Università degli Studi, Rome, Italy and gained his Explosive Ordnance Disposal qualifications at MAT Mondial (Kosovo) and Optima Group (UK).
