Vanessa Sampaio joined the GICHD in August 2017 as Junior Programme Officer, Gender & Mine Action. Her role is to assist the integration of gender and diversity considerations in all aspects of the Centre’s mandate in both internal policies as well as external working practices. She also acts as a gender focal point and facilitates exchanges between the Gender and Mine Action Programme (GMAP) and GICHD staff.
Prior to joining the GICHD, Vanessa Sampaio worked with NGOS in Rio de Janeiro in communities affected by crime and drug related violence, in the fields of education, youth empowerment, gender and conflict prevention. She has also conducted field research in Brazil and Argentina on civil-military relations and peacekeeping operations. In Geneva, she participated in a research project with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) on the gender dimensions of violent urban contexts, and worked as a consultant for the International Labour Organization, where she engaged in activities to foster gender and diversity in the workplace.
Vanessa Sampaio holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a Bachelor of Laws from the State University of Rio de Janeiro.
