The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) will convene the Pacific Regional Workshop on Explosive Ordnance Risk Reduction (EORR) from 24 to 26 November 2026 in Brisbane, Australia.
Building on previous GICHD regional workshops in the Pacific, the 2026 workshop will focus on turning regional priorities into practical action. It will bring together representatives from Pacific Island countries, including national mine action authorities and operators, alongside donors, NGO and commercial clearance operators, capacity development organisations, and military support missions.
The regional workshop will provide a practical platform for participants to share good practice and exchange experiences, strengthen regional coordination and collaboration, and identify concrete opportunities for regional cooperation in mine action and ammunition management. It will also contribute to strengthening links between national efforts and regional support mechanisms.
Aim
The regional workshop aims to support a coordinated and practical approach to EORR across the Pacific to address explosive ordnance risks and advance shared priorities. It will strengthen regional EORR coordination by focusing on topics such as information management, ammunition management, strategic planning, and applicable international humanitarian law, while supporting evidence-based decision-making, national planning processes, and sustained technical collaboration among Pacific States. More specifically, the workshop will aim to:
- Understand where each Pacific State and partner stands by sharing progress and lessons learned since the 2024 Brisbane workshop.
- Draw concrete transferable lessons from within and outside the sector.
- Translate lessons learned into practical actions for each country, identify opportunities for regional coordination and collaboration, and agree on concrete next steps at both national and regional levels.

This regional workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to explore topics relevant to EORR in the Pacific region. Please note that it is not a training but a platform for regional exchange and dialogue.
Who should attend?
The regional workshop is intended for representatives from Pacific Island countries, including national mine action authorities and operators. It will bring together affected states, donors, NGO and commercial clearance operators, capacity development organisations, and military support missions to address issues related to mine action and ammunition management in the region.
The GICHD will provide a limited number of sponsorships for the Pacific State representatives.
