This course is designed to help you  learn and use IMSMA (Information Management System for Mine Action) Core and support your national mine action programme in taking data-driven decisions. 


Aim

This course aims to strengthen your skills in configuring IMSMA Core according to the needs of your organisation.  You will explore how to use IMSMA Core, including aspects related to users, groups, permission, and content, design forms for data entry, create maps and apps for data visualisation and validation, configure dashboards for reporting purposes and design data management processes within the IMSMA Core environment. 


What you will learn?

The course strengthens participants’ capacity to: 

  • Outline information management principles and concepts;  

  • Explain the role of information management in mine action, including use of the latest concepts in the international mine action standard on land release;  

  • Learn about IMSMA Core, including aspects related to users, groups, permission, and content;  

  • Create maps, dashboards and apps for data visualisation and validation. 

  • Design data management processes within the IMSMA Core environment. 


Who should attend?

Mine action staff and practitioners from national mine action programmes and operating partners with strong technical database and project management skills.

Language level requirements

Participants should be able communicate and present on their national standards in English. The following standards of proficiency in English should be met (as described in STANAG 6001). 

  • Listening: good | 3 

  • Speaking: fair | 2 

  • Reading: fair | 2 

  • Writing: elementary | 1 

Language requirements are compulsory and should be confirmed by applicants’ superiors.  


Equipment requirements

Please bring your own laptop that; 

  • runs on either Windows 7 or higher 

  • Has at least a screen size of 11 inch 

  • Is scanned for viruses 

  • Has at least 32 GB of free space. 

Kindly note that we will install software such as ArcGIS Pro. Administrative rights on your laptop would be preferred. Neither GICHD nor the venue can provide you with a training laptop so please do ensure that you will have the necessary equipment. 

Teaching approach

This course is an in-person training and teaching methods include participatory group work and practical exercises in smaller groups to ensure that participants from diverse backgrounds can exchange on their experiences. 


Assessment

There is no individual assessment during the course. Participants are awarded with a certificate of attendance.
