Survey Managers Course - Ukraine

The training will focus on strengthening higher-level operational and managerial competencies within survey operations. The course is designed to enhance survey managers’ ability to make informed, evidence-based decisions during Non-Technical Survey (NTS) and Technical Survey (TS), while strengthening operational analysis, prioritization, quality management, and land release decision-making in Ukraine. Underpinning all of these competencies is information management: every survey decision must rest on recorded, auditable evidence, maintained as a single continuous record - from initial suspicion through to land release - within IMSMA Core, rather than treated as a separate administrative function.

Aim

The course aims to support managers and decision-makers involved in managing NTS and TS activities, with a particular emphasis on evidence-based decision-making, land release principles, information management, operational analysis, prioritization, quality management, and the effective management of survey activities.

What you will learn?

• Plan, conduct, and manage NTS by applying best practices principles and processes and analysing operational context.
• Analyse and validate information through triangulation, apply evidence-based criteria for classification and cancellation of hazardous areas, and identify and address common quality issues in NTS.
• Apply information management principles to maintain a single, continuous and auditable record for each area throughout the land release process, ensuring that survey decisions are documented, traceable and defensible.
• Plan, manage, and optimize TS outcomes by integrating appropriate assets, interpreting threat and terrain analysis, and applying evidence-based reduction criteria.
• Monitor and improve survey performance, and developing prioritization tools based on clear criteria, indicators, and evidence

This course is designed for experienced mine action professionals responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing survey operations, including both NTS and TS. It targets personnel involved in decision-making and operational oversight, such as community liaison managers, operations managers, quality management officers, and other mine action decision-makers.
